Why "Barock Connections"?

Recently, I and several colleagues here in Munich, have founded an online information and networking platform: BarockConnections.
Why the name "Baroque Connections"? Because we depend on one another— on connections. Not only in life, but also in music! Baroque music in particular thrives on the interplay of different voices. The bass line is, of course, always our foundation and our source of inspiration, but in general Baroque music is conceived more in a chamber-music spirit, unlike the Romantic era. Even the many “concerti” by Vivaldi and other Baroque composers rely more on collaboration than on opposition.
Just as in music, our Baroque community lives from this interplay, from mutual inspiration and shared impulses. Especially in Munich, where there is strong appreciation and support for 19th- and 20th-century music, it can be challenging to establish visibility—and even space—for Baroque music on historical instruments. This makes it all the more important to build a Baroque community, to find one another and support each other. Together we are stronger—and it is simply a joy to meet like-minded people!
Our Baroque community enables both amateurs and professionals to connect, exchange information, and build bridges between audiences and performers, musicologists, instrument makers, students, and professionals. We need one another—together we move forward more quickly and with greater joy.
The audience for Baroque music is there—I am convinced of that—but we are not yet truly visible to them. Together we are larger and stronger—we can share our passion and our art with far more people and become much more visible. I am very much looking forward to this journey through the world of Baroque enthusiasts and beyond—to many inspiring encounters, special experiences, and much learning together with you!
