With these Lecture-recitals, I share my personal learning journey to perform and understand deeply the most challenging repertoire musically and technically for the baroque violin.
Partita 1 in B minor BWV 1002
In this Lecture-recital, I introduce the the b minor Partita for solo violin by J.S. Bach. Musical and theological insights as well as issues concerning historical performance practice comprise the 10-minute introduction to the performance of the Partita. The commentary accompanying the performance provides further insights.
Sonata 1 in G minor BWV 1001
Here I introduce the first solo sonata in G minor, by J.S. Bach. in the 10 minute introduction I talk about the background to Bach's solo violin works, and discuss compositional techniques and useful insights into how to approach the performance. The voice-over during the performance address practical issues centered around historical performance practice.
Partita 3 in E Major BWV 1006
In this Video, I focus mainly on the practical issues around performing Bach's dance music. We look at the social aspect of dancing in the 18th century - starting with the dance tradition at the court of Louis XIV - then consult didactical literatur of the period about the subject that Bach himself would have been familiar with.
